VISION
Our winning design submission for Tawarri Hot Springs seeks to move the wellness conversation beyond trends, toward something lasting. A place where architecture, geothermal technology, sustainable design, and inclusivity come together to create a truly future-focused experience.
From the start, we were guided by a singular design philosophy: Nature Unbound. The idea that architecture should follow the landscape, that buildings could invite the Swan River in, blur boundaries with the outdoors, and open themselves to everyone.
This philosophy shaped our process. We worked closely with landscape architects to ensure every building was grounded in context—drawing on the site’s history, ecology, and native flora. Even stormwater strategies and finishes were inspired by the Yaragadee Aquifer, embedding natural systems into the design.

“We worked very closely with the landscape architect on the overall design of each building. We also considered passive surveillance, security both during the daytime and at night. The design process for Tawarri Hot Springs was driven by a thorough contextual analysis, which encompassed studying the local history, flora, fauna, and ecology.”

SOLUTION
Envisioned as Western Australia’s largest and most advanced geothermal spa, Tawarri Hot Springs brings the vision of Nature Unbound to life.
The proposed experience is layered and immersive. Over 25 thermal bathing experiences, saunas, hammams, and Vichy showers are integrated into the site. A rooftop bar, day spa, restaurant and café offer moments to pause and take in the Swan River’s shifting light. Together, the precinct is designed to welcome up to 500 guests daily.
Inspired by the site’s natural rhythms, the orthogonal pavilions sit lightly in place. Their natural materiality catches the sun and shifts with the landscape. From the open-air plaza connecting with Jo Wheatley Playspace to intuitive wayfinding and universal access, Tawarri has been designed as an inclusive place for all ages and abilities.
Now approved by the Western Australian Planning Commission, Tawarri is expected to contribute more than $25 million to the local economy. As a designated Strategic Tourism Attraction, it is set to help redefine wellness in Perth.
Tawarri shows that when vision guides design, wellness becomes more than a building—it becomes part of place.
